Cultural Appropriation

Cultural appropriation goes beyond being used for art.

It’s the adoption of elements from an oppressed cultural group to be used for amusement of a more privileged group. That includes spirituality, style, fashion, speech, and attitudes. Like in the fashion industry, models are constantly seen wearing du-rags but instead they are called urban head wraps, white models are also slicking down their “baby hairs” to resemble edges. We see people like  Iggy Azalea, Katy Perry, and Miley Cyrus being down for the cause until it’s actually time to be down for the cause. Everyone wants to be black and embrace black culture until it’s time to actually be black. Below are some examples of the cultural appropriation of black cultures that are extremely popular in pop culture.
